Olivia Tirard, Designer
Olivia is a Designer at four23.
Combining a strong background in illustration with detailed knowledge of typography and data visualisation, Olivia brings unique references and applications to four23 design projects.
Olivia’s broad skillset allows her to be both conceptually creative, whilst applying care and attention to the finer, more subtle details of design. With a passion for digital, she thrives on a challenge to translate complex information into intuitive and interactive visual tools.
Olivia arrived in the UK from Paris in 2010 to pursue her passion for the arts. She studied at the University of Brighton, where she received a first-class degree in Graphic Design. Since graduating, she has gained a wide range of experience working in branding and packaging design for the Sony Design Center Europe and Boxcutter in New York and Paris.
Becky Lyon, Programme Leader
Becky is a Programme Leader at four23, a key position within our studio, driving all components of project delivery, from concept to planning to implementation and delivery.
Leading the specialist project management teams, Becky has a natural ability to understand, visualise and interpret detailed and complex project briefs. Her inter disciplinary capabilities have seen her successfully deliver multi platform, fully integrated, global projects at four23 for clients including Oakley, adidas Originals and the Australian Embassy.
She has a passion for exploring the latest cultural movements and technical developments with a view to incorporating her findings into our work practices and projects.
In previous roles Becky has delivered cultural programmes for the W Hotel London and events such as the Green Box Project, and edited stories for Trendstop, SCOUT, StyleSight and Superfuture.
Olly Starkey, Moving Image
Olly leads the Moving Image team at four23, driving the creation of four23’s award winning film, animation and motion graphic projects.
A BA Honours Design graduate from Bristol University, Olly marries a strong visual appreciation with a talent for storytelling and narrative development. Experienced in directing, editing, 3D and animation, Olly’s unique skillset make him an accomplished and technically advanced filmmaker, at home storyboarding and scripting as well as directing and editing.
His moving image experience at four23 includes shooting with Moto GP Champion Marc Marquez in Catalonia, motion graphics for audio visual installations at RED studios, Hollywood and a live TV format show broadcast real time across social channels with Olympic snowboarder, Shaun White.
Prior to four23 Olly developed his reputation as an editor and motion graphic designer working on numerous film and TV productions.
Pip Roche, Operations Director
Pip is the Operations Director of four23. She is responsible for the leadership of studio delivery across all disciplines.
Overseeing four23’s project managers, production teams and finance department, she ensures the smooth running of projects from the technical development stage through to production and implementation.
Adept at seeing the big picture while keeping her eye on the detail, Pip has an in-depth understanding of the creative delivery process, creating an environment and infrastructure that allows the four23 teams to produce their best work.
Prior to four23 Pip led the operational team at In The City, Europe’s largest city-based music festival, an annual event featuring 500 bands and artists over 5 nights and a day time conference for over 2000 delegates from the global music industry. The event is famous for playing a key role in launching the careers of Coldplay, Daft Punk and Muse.
Darryl Hardman, Art Director
Darryl is a founding partner and Art Director of four23. He leads the design direction of four23’s projects, developing and interpreting ideas and concepts.
Since inception of four23 Darryl has designed large scale installations in Clarence House, developed mobile apps with Stella McCartney, designed logo idents for Olympians Mo Farah and Christine Ohuruogu, crafted the winners trophy for Prince Harry’s Antarctic Endeavour and rebranded the world’s largest fundraising event, the London Marathon.
After graduating with a first-class honours degree in Graphic Design, Darryl took an award-winning post as Artistic Director of SleazeNation.com, marking him out as a forerunner in the then-emerging field of digital design.
Darryl then worked with clients including Sony, Universal Music and BMG, as Art Director at PDK, and on editorial design for culture titles at What Media in Sydney, before returning to the UK to co-found four23
Elkie Sharp, Finance Manager
Elkie is the finance manager at four23. She ensures that our financial relationships and dialogue with both external and internal stakeholders are seamless, transparent and efficient across the business.
Working closely with the four23 Financial Director, Geraint Howells, Elkie leads on all financial matters and offers operational and strategic support to the company.
Elkie’s expertise ensures meticulous financial reporting and accountability across project delivery, continually refining and developing our systems and processes, as well as being responsible for the day to day running of four23’s finances.
With 15 years industry experience, Elkie brings a strong finance background to four23, having previously worked in the media, creative and publishing industries with Impossible Pictures, Cineflix and Ink Publishing, where she was responsible for consolidated budgets, forecasting, variance analysis and auditing.
Stephen Holden, Design
Stephen is a lead Designer at four23.
Experienced in design for global communication campaigns, Stephen structures and directs the design team across a mix of creative and imaginative projects.
Leading the team through research analysis, into the development of creative ideas, and visualisation, he uses his knowledge, experience and references to advise on style and technique across print, photography, illustration and digital platforms.
Stephen is responsible for managing quality and consistency across all design work, overseeing every aspect of graphic design and ensuring that all our creative output is represented by accuracy and an attention to detail.
Graduating with first-class honours degree in Graphic Design from Salford University, Stephen gained eight years of professional experience, before joining four23, in the design sector, specialising in multimedia campaigns, data visualisation and prominent identity branding.
Samantha Bird, Project Manager
Samantha is a Project Manager at four23, with a specialism in event, interior and experiential projects.
With an academic background in product design and with five years of project management experience, Sam’s blend of creativity and practicality lends itself to the delivery of complex spacial projects.
Sam leads projects from start to finish – managing timelines, building relationships with suppliers and ensuring that all projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.
An active and ongoing interest in product design encourages Sam to explore how people interact with objects and the built environment, and she brings this knowledge and experience into our creative process.
In previous roles Sam has delivered concept store and environmental design projects for clients including Puma, New Era and Le Coq Sportif, and has worked in-house delivering events at Red Bull.
Joanne Pemberton, Studio Manager
Jo is Studio Manager at four23 and provides the organsational foundation to the company.
Her influential role is to ensure the smooth running of the studio on a daily basis, which involves organising and supervising all administrative activities from procurement to recruitment to the flowing of projects through the studio.
Simultaneously aware of the operational needs of the business and the personal needs of our team, she takes an active role in seeking out new solutions that help make the studio more collaborative and efficient, whilst creating a positive and successful studio environment within which the team can flourish.
Prior to joining four23, Jo studied Decorative Arts at Nottingham Trent and continues to sell and exhibit her screen prints. She also worked for six years in visual merchandising, styling and interiors at Harrods.
JO HOSKER, Designer
Jo is a Designer at four23.
Having worked in design for communication and branding agencies for over five years, Jo brings a blend of precision and practicality to her digital and print work across the studio’s projects.
A graduate of Graphic Design from the Edinburgh College of Art and the Emily Carr Art & Design University in Vancouver, Canada, Jo’s design experience and skillset ensures that all visual work leaving the studio is cohesive and consistent.
Jo performs a key role within the design team at four23. Her experience in production and project management allow for a highly organised approach, combining an eye for the smallest details with an ability to translate briefs into engaging and impactful design work.
Prior to joining four23, Jo worked as a designer on behalf of clients such as Macmillan, Puma and Polydor Records.
Peter Kawalek, Professor in Residence
Dr Peter Kawalek is Professor in Residence at four23.
Peter’s area of academic expertise is the development and evolution of a digital society. He uses his wide knowledge of information systems and organisational behaviours to inform opinion on future business models and economies.
Peter’s role within four23 is to evolve and develop our studio thinking, explore the opportunities of digital communications and to co-publishing reports and findings as they unfold.
Outside of four23, Peter is Professor of Information Systems and Strategy at Manchester Business School. With a PhD in Computer Science, he holds a visiting position at Instituto de Empresa (IE), Madrid, and at Letterkenny Institute of Technology in Ireland and has worked with companies including BT, O2, Fujitsu and IBM as well as public agencies such as Office an Taoiseach in Dublin, the Department of Communities and Local Government in London.
Charlie Bentley, Design
Charlie is a lead designer at four23.
Experienced in both digital and print design, Charlie brings a wealth of technical knowledge, and craft, as well as project management skills to the four23 design team.
Supervising the team through the entire design process, Charlie is responsible for coordinating the work streams of the wider design team, ensuring that each designer has the tools needed to deliver exemplary design work, facilitating collaboration across the team and ensuring that the integrity of our design work is carried through to final production.
A Graphic Design graduate from Chelsea College of Art and Design, Charlie began her career in broadcasting at Channel 4, where she built up her multidisciplinary design skills. Charlie then moved into event and experiential design, initially working at Smyle and then to Imagination, designing for some of the biggest automotive events and launches globally.
MÉLODIE CARRÉ, Researcher
Mélodie is a Researcher and part of the Strategy team at four23.
With experience in social media, data analysis, multimedia publishing and strategic planning, she uses qualitative methods and analytical tools to deliver actionable insights across studio projects.
Mélodie’s interest in communication trends began in 2010, when she first studied as an undergraduate at INSEEC School of Communication in Bordeaux. After interning and working as an assistant at an agency in Dubai, she moved to London to complete her Master’s degree in Brand Strategy, before starting her career in Junior Strategic Planning. She has worked for clients and charities including Paypal, SKODA, Christie’s and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Mélodie’s role at four23 involves defining trends, identifying emerging behaviours and translating them into concepts which support the wider Creative and Strategic teams.
Rebecca Welsh, Strategy
An expert in information and data analysis, Rebecca leads the Research and Strategy teams across studio projects.
Working closely with clients, Rebecca stimulates ideas in the pre-creative process by distilling information to its key components. She supports four23’s creative process in generating unique and original thoughts, opinions and insights.
Rebecca is a key part of four23’s internal knowledge programme, encouraging the sharing of references and learning within the studio. She is also an integral part of four23’s publishing and communications output, leading on social strategy and both internal and external communication projects.
Rebecca read Cultural Studies at Bristol University before starting her career managing digital communications for an artists’ studio. She moved into online research at Join the Dots, the first digital research specialists in Britain, before joining the four23 team.
Sabina Dallu, Moving Image
Sabina is part of the Moving Image team at four23, with expertise as an editor, motion graphic designer, illustrator and animator.
Sabina is adept at taking research, strategy and conceptual threads and developing them into impactful moving image outputs – from large format live event visuals, to animated idents and short film content.
A versatile and highly skilled moving image designer, Sabina’s craft spans idea generation, pre-production planning, storyboarding, shooting, directing, script editing, concept refinement, type/title layout, motion design, animating, editing, and post-production.
Coming from a background of fine art and illustration, Sabina has moved across various creative fields and acquired an MA in Filmmaking from Goldsmiths University.
She has previously worked in the video department at Benetton’s FABRICA research centre, in Italy and is fluent in French, German, English and Romanian.
Leon Duffy, 3D Designer
Leon is a 3D and CAD Designer at four23 with a specialism in the built environment.
Integral to the creative process, Leon develops ideas and brings them to life as 3D environments across a range of different project areas including live events, exhibitions and installations.
Leon’s skills bridge the gap between design and production, translating visuals into detailed drawings which allow him to assess scale and flow. He is highly skilled in Autodesk Maya, 3DS Max, Auto CAD, hand drafting, sketching and architectural surveying.
His experience at four23 includes 3D modeling a skatepark in Los Angeles, set designing a Formula 1 launch for Scuderia Ferrari in Barcelona, and designing a 1750 m2 London Marathon Expo space at Excel Docklands.
Leon originally trained as an architect at London Metropolitan University and has gained a wide range of professional experience over the last seven years in the design and architecture industries.
Harriet Paterson, Spacial Design Director
Harriet drives the four23 studio on interior and spatial design projects, implementing her design expertise across permanent environments and temporary installations and exhibitions.
She began her career as a designer working with Christine Vanderhurd in New York.
Returning to the UK, Harriet started in the publishing industry initially working at Condé Nast’s, World of Interiors, before taking the role of Style Director for Time Inc.’s, Livingetc Magazine. Under her creative direction she built a style team who’s work inspired a global readership and was extensively syndicated worldwide to all major book and magazine publishers.
Over 14 years Harriet has established herself at the forefront of the Interiors industry, creating award winning interior schemes, working with clients including Conran, Benchmark, Liberty and Original BTC.
A leading voice on interiors trends, she is a regular speaker on design.
Warren Bramley, CEO
Warren is a founding partner and the CEO of four23.
A law graduate, Warren began his career at the influential Factory Records in 1998, under the mentorship of the late, Anthony H Wilson. In his six years working closely with Anthony, Warren gained a unique insight into the worlds of music, film, TV and politics.
Founding four23 in 2004, Warren’s experience includes collaborations with designer Peter Saville and the Medici Quartet, directing film and photo shoots with Lionel Messi, Kevin Spacey, Marc Marquez and Sébastien Loeb, and creative strategic relationships with global organisations including adidas, Oakley and Virgin, cultural institutions; Chetham’s School of Music and Graeae Theatre Company and charities including Fight For Peace.
An alumni of Ashridge, Warren is a founding board member of Creative Partnerships, a Department of Culture, Media and Sport initiative, aiming to bring arts, culture and creative approaches into the classroom.
Jesse Harris, Project Manager
Jesse is a Project Manager at four23.
With experience in editorial and commercial shoots, Jesse brings her organisational skills and attention to detail to the project management team at four23.
Jesse graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a first class degree in Visual Communication, specialising in Illustration. With these skills she worked as a freelance designer before she started working as a Style Assistant and later a Junior Style Editor in the publishing industry at Time Inc, working for Livingetc Magazine, wallpaper* and Homes & Gardens.
With her broad knowledge of the interiors industry and her an ingrained passion for simple, clever and innovative design, Jesse collaborates with Harriet, the Spacial Design Director with SPACES, the sixth compartment of the four23 creative studio.
Thibault Rolando, Developer
Thibault is a digital developer at four23; an experienced full-stack coder experienced in building websites and apps using a diverse range of tools and programming languages.
An expert in technology and digital media, Thibault leads the team through the full project timeline including technical scoping, user experience, AIB testing and delivering projects to the highest QA standards, whilst applying current digital trends and sound UI principals to our digital projects.
Prior to joining four23, Thibault spent three years in China, where he developed a passion for coding and new technologies. Thibault first moved to the UK from his native France to pursue and develop his coding skills in publishing industry, working with leading digital platforms including Loot,The Color Company, Ditto and The Irish Post.
David Warwick, Moving Image
David is a member of the Moving Image team at four23.
Working collaboratively across all stages of a project's development, David brings his expertise as a filmmaker to generating and shaping ideas, scripting and storyboarding, preparing and directing shoots, music synchronization and sound composition, and has a unique approach and style in the editing process.
Since joining four23 David has directed the film series for the Virgin Money Giving’s Extramile campaign and travelled the world interviewing cycling legends Greg Lemond, Thomas Frischknecht, and Joaquim Rodríguez for the Oakley Disruptors film series.
David holds a first-class degree in Philosophy, and is an alumnus of the AFI Conservatory Directing Programme in LA. He has worked as an associate producer on films by the Brothers Quay and Tim Meara and Lucian Freud, and has written and directed his first short film, Out For A Walk, starring Matthew Beard and Saskia Reeves.
Geraint Howells, Finance Director
Geraint is the Finance Director of four23. A chartered accountant, he oversees all aspects of the finance function of the company.
Geraint is experienced in working within the media and creative industries, advising on a range of financial and business issues relating to those specific fields. After joining Caisson Beckman to help grow their media offering, he moved to Kingston Smith W1 as partner, where he spent 13 years working with start ups, multi-nationals and AIM listed groups.
In 2010 he started his own practice to focus on, and become more immersed with, the business and financial needs of a few select, fast-moving companies, such as four23.
Geraint is also the treasurer of The Midi Music Company, a charity that provides development programmes for children and young people who are inspired by music and want to join the creative industries.
Nicola Mostyn, Publishing
Nicola is a writer at four23. She is responsible for the creation of copy, in long form and short form, on social publishing projects.
A creative writer with extensive experience writing across a variety of media, Nicola works at all stages of a project from messaging and explaining concepts to writing for print, social and web, editing and proofing, and identifying the language, tone and style that best conveys the message.
Nicola generates creative approaches, refines ideas and works with the creative teams to identify a project’s core ideas and audience before creating fresh, astute and authentic copy that is clear and engaging.
With 12 years of journalistic and editing experience, Nicola has worked as a columnist, reviewer, features writer and editor. She has an MA in English Literature and has just written her first novel.
Danny Meaney, Chairman
Danny is the Chairman of four23. He brings commercial expertise to the studio through success as an entrepreneur in the media and technology industries.
Danny has delivered strategy and change projects with the UK’s leading broadcasters, mobile network operators, global OEMs, device manufacturers and TV production companies. His clients have included Samsung, Nokia, Sony, BBC, Channel 4, Guardian Media Group and key UK Government departments.
A recognised global expert in developing media cities, Danny has worked on MediaCityUK, Twofour54 in Abu Dhabi, Pacific Quay in Glasgow, Creative London, Bristol’s Harbourside, London’s Olympic Park, Corridor Manchester, Digital City in Teesside, Jeddah’s KAEC, Dubai’s Internet City, Brisbane’s Creative Precinct and Singapore’s Mediapolis.
He has been a member of two Downing Street Think Tanks, is a member of the Catalyst UK network and a Digital Industries Trade Ambassador for the UK.
