four23 and designboom have joined forces with Oakley to discover the next generation of innovative designers.
Founded in 1999, designboom is the world’s first digital architecture and design magazine celebrating design professionals and young creatives from a diverse range of backgrounds.
A European-wide Design Competition ran throughout the summer, drawing hundreds of entries from over 15 countries from young designers seeking to respond to the brief – ‘develop a design that would enhance elite sports performance in new and radical ways.’
The competition was supported by an editorial content series which profiled the people, products and places pushing the boundaries of design and innovation in the 21st century.
The two winning designs were The Konk by Nacho Fernandez Bellette and Lusi Enrique Muñoz (Spain), a piece of multi functional outdoor sports technology (pictured above), and The Joy of Practice by Stefano Panterotto and Francesco Ludovico Bertin (Italy), a concept ‘smart fabric’ that enables athletes recovering from injury to ‘re-learn’ their muscular memory.
The two winners will receive a one-week all expenses paid trip to California, including a workshop at the internationally renowned Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena, as well as a 3D printed prototype of their design.
